April Ward (Polutan) is a first-generation Filipino-American who grew up in Washington Township, Sewell, New Jersey, in Gloucester County. She has participated in activities in her local community to enrich her appreciation of her Filipino heritage. As a teen, April was a dancer for the Mutya Philippine Dance Company in Philadelphia, PA. In addition, she served as a Mistress of Ceremonies for the Philippine Nurses Association of Delaware Valley's annual function. These types of activities allowed her to practice her public speaking skills.
Professionally, April worked in the top 4 broadcast TV news markets, which allowed her to formulate unique organizational skills alongside being a great communicator. While working at CBS 3 Philadelphia as Production Assistant, she won an Emmy Award for her work with The Tribune Show, a talk show highlighting African American community in the Greater Philadelphia area.
April later worked in the public broadcast television industry as a senior producer of television talk shows and public affairs and pledge drive producer. She earned multiple awards for her work on the following talk shows - a Bronze Telly Award for Public Voices and two Awards of Excellence in Broadcasting from the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters for Asian Outlook and Philly Live.
She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Studies, where she graduated from Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Washington Township High School in Sewell, New Jersey.
She previously worked as the Communications Manager for a non-denominational church in Sewell, New Jersey. She is currently a board member of the Clayton Public School District's Board of Education. In June 2022, she will celebrate 16 years of marriage with James. She loves family time with James and her children, Ashley and Nolan, and their family dog, Spirit.
