Megan Knowlton Balne, an associate with the firm, concentrates her practice in the areas of commercial litigation, zoning and land use, and real estate development and finance. Prior to joining Hyland Levin, she clerked for the Honorable Jerome B. Simandle, Chief U.S. District Judge for the District of New Jersey and for the Honorable Ronald E. Bookbinder, Assignment Judge of the New Jersey Superior Court for Burlington County. Known to be a very hard-working and meticulous attorney, Megan is also described as highly intelligent, enthusiastic and compassionate. A graduate of Ramapo College (B.A., summa cum laude, 2007), Megan received her law degree from Rutgers University School of Law-Camden (J.D., magna cum laude, 2010). She won the award for Outstanding Scholarship from the New Jersey Women and Gender Studies Consortium and served as President of Alpha Psi Omega Theater Honor Society. She was also awarded a fellowship as a History Scholar Finalist at the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.
At Rutgers, Megan was Editor-in-Chief of the Rutgers Journal of Law and Religion, and served as a Legal Research and Writing Teaching Assistant and was an Academic Success Fellow. Megan also participated in the Domestic Violence Clinic, where she represented victims of domestic violence who filed for temporary restraining orders in Camden County.
Megan is admitted to practice in New Jersey (2010) and Pennsylvania (2010). She is a member of the Burlington County Bar Association, New Jersey Bar Association and Pennsylvania Bar Association. Megan is also a member of the Community Associations Institute and serves on the New Jersey Law Journal’s Young Lawyers Advisory Board.
In addition to the law, Megan has a passion for the arts. She remains active in community theater and regularly participates as actor, director or stage manager in different productions throughout South Jersey. Megan also serves the community as a board member of both Haddonfield Plays and Players and Maternity Care Coalition.
