Tell us a bit about yourself and your business.
I am a nephrologist (kidney doctor) caring for patients in southern New Jersey since 1985. I spent the first twenty years as an academician doing research and teaching, in addition to patient care. My passion was really patient care and in 2005 I opened my own nephrology practice with an adjacent dialysis unit to better serve my patients. I also see patients at Virtua. Our dialysis unit has a number of amenities, including three section heated, massage chairs.
In my free time, I enjoy dancing and pilates, as well as spending time with my daughters and four grandchildren.
Do you have a tip or tool that has helped you in your business?
Books: Good to Great by Jim Collins and Who Moved My Cheese by Spencer Johnson , M. D.
Do you have a quote to share and inspire other members?
“When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” I did my training a number of years ago and at that time there were few women in medicine. A significant number of male physicians – professors/teachers and even colleagues were not very encouraging and in some cases did not take women seriously. Worst cases were, of course, sexism. So, the going was often “tough” and I needed to believe in my abilities and pursue my goals.
What is your go to business, mindset or productivity book that has helped you in your life and business that you’d like to share?
Always believe in yourself and never give up! I was lucky to receive a great deal of encouragement from my late father. He was supportive of his daughters, which was atypical in his generation. He always told me I could do “anything that I put my mind to” and if I don’t succeed at first to “never give up on my dreams”.
