NAWBO of South Jersey is pleased to announce their next President, Katie Walsh, Owner of 3 Rita’s Water Ice franchises each located in Gloucester County, NJ. Walsh has been a member of the organization since 2014 and during this time has served on the Board as Secretary. Having demonstrated her commitment, passion and dedication to NAWBO SJ, Walsh is a natural fit to step into the role of President.

Nine years ago, Katie started “scooping” ice as a server at her local Rita’s. She quickly climbed the ranks into management. While a full time student, pursuing a Marketing degree from Rutgers University Camden School of Business, Katie stayed with Rita’s as a fulltime General Manager/Marketing Manager. In 2012, Katie graduated Summa Cum Laude from Rutgers University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing.

In 2014, Katie purchased the Rita’s Ice locations of Mantua, Woodbury, & Glassboro, NJ where she remains responsible for all business decisions. In addition to managing her three locations, Katie works as a Small Business Consultant, specializing in operations, marketing, and team building.

“As business owners we all face challenges,” said Walsh. “However, as women business owners we often face challenges that our male counterparts may not such as gender discrimination, the pressures of managing work and family, appropriately valuing our worth in the marketplace, and learning how to be effective leaders while walking the line between being perceived as too aggressive or too nice. The National Association of Women Business Owners is an organization that provides a supportive environment just for women to share the challenges we face and receive the advice and wisdom of those who have gone before us.”

“I believe Katie Walsh is the perfect woman to be the President of NAWBO SJ,” said Fran Davis, current President of NAWBO SJ and owner of The Flavorful Fork. “She is very passionate about women business owners and giving them the tools necessary to be successful. She has a wonderful agenda planned for the upcoming year and is committed to not only maintaining the level of excellence NAWBO SJ is known for, but also taking it up a notch. With Katie at the helm, I know that NAWBO of South Jersey will continue to offer quality content, educational resources, great networking and wonderful support to both the small business and larger corporations in our area.”

The installation of NAWBO SJ’s new President and Board will be September 14, 2016 11:30am-2:00pm at The Madison in Riverside NJ.

About NAWBO

The National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), headquartered in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, is the only dues based national organization representing the interests of all women entrepreneurs in all types of businesses. The organization currently has over 80 chapters. It is affiliated with Les Femmes Chefs d’Entreprises Mondiales (World Association of Women Entrepreneurs) in 33 countries.

NAWBO traces its origins to a small group of Washington, DC business women who began meeting informally in the spring of 1974 to talk about mutual experiences, exchange information and develop business skills. Recognizing the value of the group, they incorporated as the National Association of Women Business Owners on July 5, 1974. Two years later they began recruiting members from across the country, and in 1978 the first chapters were formed. Membership is open to sole proprietors, partners and corporate owners with day today management responsibility. Website: http://www.nawbo.org
